   In addition to this description of the vicious GB violence-poverty cycle Leilani provided I’d like to add that Serbia has adopted rather progressive protective measures in cases of domestic violence, amongst which is a measure of temporary eviction of the perpetrator, no matter which partner owns the property (maximum duration is 1 year). Unfortunately judges are over-hesitant to issue the measure and it is rarely practiced.
   The main problem for “emerging democracies”, countries in process of joining the EU seems to be the implementation of the new legislation.

   Other important issue I’d like to address is one discriminatory common law practice especially present in rural regions, but in cities as well – the practice where daughters after death of parents disown inheritance in favour of brothers. This practice is so widespread that it is done in free will, but there are also lots of cases where there has been coercion as well.
   I’d like to know if there are cases where this discriminatory practice has been addressed by some measure/policy/strategy by a government.
