Newsletter # 2

Invited by the Government of Kazakhstan, the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Raquel Rolnik, visited the country from September 6th to 13th. During the mission, the Rapporteur testified the effects of housing and financial crisis, which caused a number of people the loss of their homes, as well as heard testimonials of forced evictions due to the construction of equipment for the Asian Games.
Moreover, in the imminence of 2010 World Habitat Day, which is annually celebrated in early October by the UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), the Rapporteur prepared a statement emphasizing the importance of thinking housing policies under the perspective of human rights and social justice.
