‘Inequal Land Rights Aggravates Women’s Status’

The impact of the inequality in lands rights has aggravated women’s socio-economic status, allowed for sexual harassment and violence against women and contributed towards marital instability, separation and divorce.
This assertion was made by the Executive Director, Women Environmental Programme (WEP), Ms. Priscilla M. Achakpa in her address entitled “Gender land evaluation using gender evaluation criteria” presented at a training workshop on gender and land evaluation held in Abuja yesterday.

Flood Disaster Overwhelmed Our Capacity, says NEMA in Nigeria

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Thursday said the country’s resources and response capacity were seriously over-stretched by the magnitude of the recent massive flooding that ravaged 19 states of the federation. The agency likened the magnitude of the Bayalsa flood as almost close to what occurred in Haiti where earthquake nearly made the entire country impassable.

Lagos Condemns Rise in Forging of Land Documents in Nigeria

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has given detailed insight into the reasons behind the promulgation of the State’s Land Use Act (Title Document Registration) 2012, saying that it was to improve service in the administration of land in the state.
Fashola, who spoke at the stakeholders’ meeting on Land Use Act (Title Documentation) 2012, said the process of land administration in the state would be greatly enhanced by the operation of the Act, pointing out that it would also empower citizens of the state.
