Special Rapporteur visits Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory – Newsletter #18


On February 12, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, Raquel Rolnik, concluded her official visit to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory holding a press conference in Jerusalem, in which she presented her preliminary findings. In March, the Rapporteur will present to the UN Human Rights Council, in Geneva, her Argentina and Algeria missions reports and also the thematic report on women and the right to housing.

The report on the mission to Argentina is already available

The report on the 2011 visit to Argentina is already available. The Special Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik was invited by the government of that country to verify the situation of the right to housing in the country. In the report she presents her conclusions and recommendations to the government.

Proposals of Non Governmental Organizations and innovator habitat politics in Argentina

There are 100.000 empty properties in the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires – it is to say that no inhabitants are living in there. Since 2005 different organizations – local and international ones – have been presenting this problem wherever it corresponds, it is to say not only to the “Senado de la Nación” (National Senate Parliament) but also to the local and national authorities as well.
