   In the EECA region, there is actually still much need for legislative improvement. I’d say this would be the first task: to harmonise domestic legislation with international human rights standards. There is also not enough information on women’s access to housing and land – so we need data collection, especially data disaggregated by gender, and research projects that can tell us what exactly the situation is on both quantitative and qualitative levels, so that on the basis of evidence provided by data advocacy initiatives can be launched. There is not enough knowledge on women’s housing and land rights – so we need information campaigns, not only among women but also among those in power too. Free legal aid is also crucial at this stage. Also, training policy makers, police officers, judiciary on women’s land and housing rights is also something gravely lacking (with a very few exceptions) so that the legislation can actually be implemented. Last but not the least, governments need not only make commitments, but they also need to ensure human and financial resources for implementation.
