Guide and leaflet on forced evictions have been used in several places around the world

Early this year, we published a leaflet on forced evictions, for the populations of threatened communities, and a guide to those involved in urban development projects on how to respect the right to adequate housing in the implementation of these projects. These materials are based on guidelines approved in 2007 by the Rapporteur and were produced in five languages – EnglishSpanishFrench,Portuguese and Arabic.

Our goal is to disseminate the maximum of qualified information about housing rights and how to respect and promote them. Therefore, both the guide and the leaflet are distributed under a creative commons license and can be freely published and reproduced, provided that the source is mentioned. We also leave a space to include the logo of the organizations that want to print the materials. In Brazil, for example, the “Public Defender of São Paulo” reproduced and distributed them.

The guide and leaflet were also distributed at events like the World Urban Forum, organized by the UN-Habitat (UN Human Settlements Programme), which was attended by nearly 20,000 people from around the world, and also in the Urban Social Forum organized by civil society and held concurrently with the UN gathering. Moreover, these materials were used in an event on the right to housing organized by the University of Essex in partnership with a neighborhood association in United Kingdom; and also in Germany, in a event organized by Amnesty International.
