Newsletter #13

The UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing is currently focused on preparation of reports on the missions to Argentina, Algeria and the World Bank, and also on the thematic report on “Women and Housing Rights”. In fact, the debate on the women’s housing and land rights brought people and organisations from all over the world to the web platform, and many themes have already been raised by participants. There is still time to participate in the debate! Furthermore, in September, the communications sent to countries by the Rapporteur from December 2010 to May this year will be presented at the UN Human Rights Council, alongside the communications of other Rapporteurs.

* World Bank Report

Last year, the Special Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik visited the World Bank to learn more about the institution’s policies related to housing rights. The report on the mission will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2012. Those interested in sending contributions to the report may do so by e-mail up to the end of October.

* Women and Housing Rights
There are many topics related to women’s housing and land rights. The debate on the virtual platform shows that some questions are repeated worldwide, but that in each region there are also specificities. Learn more.

* Communications Report
The report on communications, which was traditionally presented individually by each Rapporteur, will this time be presented as a joint report. The presentation will take place in September, at the 18th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, in Geneva. Learn more.
