Newsletter #16

Last month, presentation to the UN General Assembly of the report on housing reconstruction after natural disasters and the right to housing and the parallel event promoted by the Rapporteur created an intense debate and a few developments. Agencies and UN programs working with the reconstruction of countries have been discussing the recommendations made by Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik and looking for ways of implementing them.
Currently, the Rapporteur is in the final production phase of a booklet, a brochure and a report on women and the right to housing, which will be presented to the Human Rights Council in March 2012. In fact, the first mission of the Rapporteur in 2012 will be in Israel/OPT. New visits are already being scheduled and several countries are sending invitations. However, before 2011 ends, the Rapporteur will launch a new website. Wait and see!
