A Year Later, the Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing Attends a Follow Up Event of the US Mission

On October 25th, in New York, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing, Raquel Rolnik, attended a Follow Up Event of the Mission that she has done to US in 2009. The event was organized by the Campaign Restore National Housing Rights and had the presence of representatives from grassroots organizations from all the country.

In addition to reflections on the evolution of US housing crisis and the balance of the demonstrations of the last year, the organizations also discussed matters relating to the campaign.

In 2009, the Rapporteur met with more than seventy popular organizations in cities like New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota, Washington and Los Angeles. In March 2010, she submitted her report on the mission to the UN Human Rights Council, showing the conection between the recent financial crisis and the housing crisis faced by low-income communities in the U.S. for several years.
