   Here in New Zealand security of tenure has always been an issue for tenants. The future for those seeking accommodation.in New Zealand is rental accommodation as home ownership is beyond the majority of New Zealanders. In N.Z.a landlord only has to give their tenant 90 days written notice to vacate the property,ieven if they have lived there for a number of years,this notice can be reduced to 42 days notice if the landlord wants to move back in or a family member or sell the property.N.Z. has never had security of tenure,as there was this belief that people only rented till they got married and bought their first home.N.Z. at one time had the highest home ownership rates in the western world as central governments had set in place policies for all those seeking home ownership. These policies were scraped as the government in 1984 moved to free market policies which has only resulted in the housing crisis being faced today by a growing number of New Zealanders.
