Flooding in Bukoba, the capital of Tanzania’s Kagera region, has killed two people and displaced more than 300 families after several of their homes were destroyed, Tanzania’s Daily News reported Wednesday (May 8th).

Bukoba District Commissioner Zipporah Pangani has called on people living in flood prone areas to re-locate to higher ground.

All seven districts of Kagera have recorded excess rainfall, said Tanzania Meteorological Agency Kagera Regional Manager Samwel Butene, urging residents of urban areas to properly maintain drainage systems to prevent flooding.
