Collection and mapping of cases of extractive industries in or near indigenous territories

March 20, 2013

The Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples requests information about extractive and energy industry projects in or near indigenous territories.

Indigenous peoples, NGOs that work with them, Governments, companies, and other interested parties are invited to provide information about cases of extractive industries (mining, petroleum, or gas projects) and energy production (such as hydroelectric projects) in or near indigenous territories.

The following information is requested: location, description, impacts, parties involved, applicable legislation, consultation and consent processes, conflicts, good practices, mitigation measures, experiences with benefit-sharing agreements, and other relevant information.

This information about cases of extractive industries will contribute to the study that the Special Rapporteur is conducting on this theme
