The Right to Adequate Housing Toolkit

The human right to adequate housing is more than just four walls and a roof. It is the right of every woman, man, youth and child to gain and sustain a safe and secure home and community in which to live in peace and dignity.

Thinking about this, the OHCHR created a webpage called “The Right to Adequate Housing Toolkit”. In this page, it’s possible to see what are the elements of the right to adequate housing, such as legal security of tenure, affordability, habitability, among others.

There are also publications regarding the right to housing, which UN mechanisms are dealing with housing right, and what are the indicators to implement and measure elements of this right.

The webpage is also divided in “Issues” and “Groups”, concerning what are the main issues when addressing the right to housing and who are the groups most vulnerable to right to housing violations.

All the materials are available for download and consultation. And most of the documents are also available in our Collection.
