Tokludede Düşleri / Dreams of Tokludede

Tokludede district in Istanbul, Turkey, is suffering from urban regeneration projects that are maintained across different parts of city. The area is one of the most important part of the city because of its historical and architectural background.

This project is destroying all values of area wantonly and disrespectfully. People living here are exposed to forced eviction. The municipality cut off the electricity and water service of the houses around the area. People living here has no economic power to move their houses.

The government offers homeowners to buy a house which is out of the city centre and insufficient to live in. For tenants who live there, there is no programme for having another house. Most of the people that were used to live there, left the city. The others accepted the offer of government and moved to periphery. Lastly, a few family is still fighting against this forced eviction.

This short documentary is created during the Urban Dreams Workshop that was hosted by The Chamber of Architects of Turkey.
