Rapporteur to promote consultation about security of tenure late this month – Newsletter #27

In October, the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing, Raquel Rolnik, will organize a public consultation, in Geneva, as part of the thematic study on security of tenure that she is conducting. In addition, a topic on the issue was created in the virtual platform on the Rapporteur’s site, so everybody can contribute to the debate throughout the project. Also in October, the Rapporteur will present to the UN General Assembly, in New York, her report on the financialization of housing production. Making use of the opportunity, she will take part in a debate about the new report at the City University of New York (CUNY).

* Public consultation on the security of tenure project
The Special Rapporteur will organize, on October 24th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (local time), the public consultation on “Security of tenure: cornerstone of the right to adequate housing”, open to States, intergovernmental organizations, national human rights institutions, non-governmental organizations and other interested stakeholders. The meeting will take place in Palais des Nations, Room XI, Geneva. Learn more.

* New topic for discussion in the virtual platform
In the context of the safety of tenure project, a new topic on the issue was started in the Rapporteur’s virtual platform for debates, in order to receive contributions to the study. We count on your participation to enrich this debate. Click here to participate.

* Report presentation and debate in New York
On October 29th, the Rapporteur will present her thematic report on the financialization of housing production in the UN General Assembly, in New York. At the occasion, she will also take part in a debate along academics, activists from the right to housing and the Occupy movement at CUNY. The debate will take place on October, 26th, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm (local time), and will be streamed live on the Internet. Check the programme here.
