Villages Destroyed By Rains in South Darfur, Sudan

Jacob Mursal, the Commissioner of Bilel locality, South Darfur, told Radio Dabanga that heavy rains and floods swept several villages in the locality on Tuesday, August 28.

He added that more than 20 families are now living in open areas.

The Commissioner said that a cemetery in Bilel was washed away and 527 corpses got in contact with the water, which he fears may have been contaminated. Mursal informed that so far authorities recovered 126 corpses. According to Mursal, the flood also damaged a large quantity of stored crops.

Local authorities announced the villages affected by the flood are: Krete, Wadi Al Mayeni, Al Dawali Ahela, Al Dawali Annaga, Hela Al Dawali (where displaced persons live) and some neighborhoods of Bilel locality. Jacob Mursal confirmed that these villages are facing serious damages due to the floods.
