Over 100 people were displaced yesterday after a heavy downpour that destroyed more than 50 houses in different locations in Nguru town of Yobe State.
Daily Trust gathered that the rainfall, which started around 1pm and lasted more than four hours, destroyed many buildings at Bulaburin, Tsohuwar Nguru and Unguwar Kanuri areas of the town.
A resident in the area told our correspondent that over 10 persons were removed from collapsed buildings and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
A source from the Fe-deral Medical Centre, Nguru also confirmed receiving over 10 victims of the flood disaster. “Some with complex conditions were admitted but majority of them are at the emergency unit”, the source said.
Another resident in the areas complained of lack of good drainage system in place as responsible for the disaster, adding that even the existing ones were blocked and “so the running water could not get the right passage”.
