The Minustah concerned following the incidents of Park La Visite in Haiti

The United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) said it was concerned by the reports reporting several victims and injured, in circumstances not yet clear, during a forced eviction operation, in circumstances not yet elucidated, conducted by police officers in the National Park La Visite, located in the town of Galette Seche/Seguin, in the Department of Southeast.

The Mission, deplores the loss of lives of at least four Haitian citizens, and calls upon national authorities to carry out in the shortest possible time, an investigation to establish the facts and to fix the responsibilities. A multidisciplinary team of the United Nations was deployed on the ground, to gather information to help establish the facts.

The Minustah recalls that the forced eviction without alternative to adequate housing, is contrary to international rules on human rights and in particular to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
