Liberia: Help to the West Point Fire Victims

July 31, 2012

EDITORIAL

We are heartily pleading with the Government of Liberia (GOL), local and international humanitarian organizations, people of goodwill among others to help the West Point fire victims. On Saturday, July 28, 2012, fire gutted 32 houses in the Township of West Point, rendering several persons, including women, children and the elderly homeless.

Properties, including clothes and other valuables belonging to the victims, were destroyed by the scorching fire. The cause of the fire has been attributed to an abandoned coal pot (a cooking device using charcoal). The West Point fire victims lament that the fire destroyed all of their belongings, thereby dashing their hope in life.

The fire victims say they want to rebuild their shattered homes in a bid to restore hope to their lives. This why we are pleading with the government and others to come to their aid. It is our fervent hope that our plea will be given due consideration in the soonest.
