Every year, the United Nations celebrates the World Habitat Day on October 3rd. This year the focus is “Climate Change and the Cities”. Making use of the date, the Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Raquel Rolnik, and the Rapporteur on Internally Displaced Persons, Chaloka Beyani, issued a joint statement on the matter. The official agenda of Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik this month also includes meetings at the UN-Habitat, in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 10th and 11th, and the presentation of a report on reconstruction after disasters to he UN General Assembly, on the 21st, in New York, where there will also be a side event on the matter.

* UN-Habitat
On the 10th and 11th, Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik will be in Nairobi, where she will meet the new executive director of UN-Habitat, Joan Clos, and permanent representatives of countries to the agency. Furthermore, the Rapporteur will participate in a UN-Habitat internal learning event, where she will speak about the challenges for construction of a better future for cities.
* Post-disaster reconstrucion: side event
After presentation of her report to the UN General Assembly, in New York, on the 21st, Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik will promote a side event on the matter. Some speakers has already been confirmed.Learn more.
