Report on financialization of housing will be presented in NY

On October 26th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right of Adequate Housing, Raquel Rolnik, will present her report on the financialization of housing at City University of New York (CUNY), in an event promoted by academics, activists and members of social organizations and the civil society. Public consultation: “Security of tenure: cornerstone of the right to adequate housing”, October 24th

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has the honour to invite States, intergovernmental organizations, national human rights institutions, non-governmental organizations and other interested stakeholders to attend a public consultation convened by the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing, Ms. Raquel Rolnik, on “Security of tenure: cornerstone of the right to adequate housing”. October 24, 2012, from 10am to 1pm, at the Palais des Nations (Geneva).

Special Rapporteur visits Curitiba, Brazil, to address the impacts of the World Cup to the right to housing

(Português) A Relatora Especial da ONU, Raquel Rolnik, visitou Curitiba para abordar a questão do direito à moradia no contexto dos megaeventos esportivos e dos mega-projetos. A capital paranaense será uma das cidades-sede da Copa do Mundo de 2014 no Brasil.
A visita fez parte da “I Semana de Cultura e Cidade – Metrópolis”, evento realizado pelo Ministério Público do Paraná, em parceria com o Programa de Educação Tutorial da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR). O objetivo principal das visitas e reuniões é debater a situação das comunidades ameaçadas de remoção.

Thematic report on financialization of housing available online

The Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing will present her thematic mandate this year at the 67th session of the General Assembly, in which she analyses the ruling paradigm of housing policies that focus on housing finance as the main means of promoting homeownership. The report assesses the impact of prevalent housing finance policies on the right to adequate housing of those living in poverty.

The Urban Social Forum opens in Naples with a field visit from the UN Special Rapporteur

Naples gave a warm welcome to the second Urban Social Forum (USF). The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing accompanied a USF delegation to the popular neighbourhood Scampia, where she held a reunion with social organizations and the inhabitants of the Giugliano roma camp, who live under an eviction order threat.
