Red Cross and Red Crescent resolution on disaster laws

In 2011, Members States to the Geneva Conventions gave a clear mandate to the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent to work on regulatory barriers to disaster response. In this context, the 31st Conference of the IFRC was held, addressing disaster laws and adopting a resolution on the topic.

Questionnaire on Housing financing for the poor

In her forthcoming report, to be submitted to the UN General Assembly at its 67th session, in October, the Special Rapporteur will continue her previous work, by examining national policies promoting access to homeownership and affordable housing for the poorest segments of society or other marginalized groups. The report will focus on policies and programmes which aim to promote access to adequate housing for the poor.

Having considered a significant number of reports of forced evictions in recent years, including instances in which it has determined that the obligations of States parties were being violated, the Committee is now in a position to seek to provide further clarification as to the implications of such practices in terms of the obligations contained in the Covenant.
